Chapter Nineteen

Tommy helped Natasha out of the car but didn’t let go of her hand. She couldn’t get the sight of Natasha suddenly lined up in her crosshairs out of her mind. All it would’ve taken was one of her colleagues getting spooked and pulling the trigger without Natasha out of the way. Tommy shuddered and pulled Natasha closer.

“What’s wrong?” Natasha brushed her fingers over Tommy’s eyebrow and along her cheek.

“There are so many ways things could’ve gone pear-shaped earlier, and I can’t stop thinking about you getting shot. You put yourself in front of twenty armed cops so they wouldn’t shoot someone else.”

Natasha’s back was against the car and she pulled Tommy to her. She took their hands, which were still joined, and put them over her chest. “Do you feel that?”

Tommy nodded. Natasha’s heart was beating hard and fast under her palm.

“I’m alive and okay because of you. I knew you’d keep me safe.”

Tommy kept her hand on Natasha’s chest. Her heartbeat was comforting, and she leaned her forehead against Natasha’s. Natasha rested her hands on Tommy’s hips. Suddenly, Tommy realized the position they were in. Every nerve seemed to flood her body with pleasure signals at once.

“Does your heart always beat this fast?”

“You have me pinned against a car with your hand on my chest. Safe to say, that’s all your doing.” Natasha was flushed. “I know we said no more kissing…”

Tommy didn’t need her to finish her thought. She tangled her hands in Natasha’s hair and pulled her in. The politeness and hesitation of the first kiss were gone. This kiss was full of passion, hunger, and demanding give and take.

Tommy had never been kissed like this. She never wanted to stop. She vaguely registered a door opening and someone calling her name. Whoever it was could wait. All she cared about was Natasha’s soft lips and her hands on her ass.

“Tommy, that you? You coming in? Oh.”

Natasha pushed Tommy away gently, gave her one last chaste kiss, and stepped away from the car. “Hello, Harry. Nice to see you again.”

“Natasha. You staying for dinner? Seems like you started with dessert.” Harry still hadn’t looked at Tommy.

“I invited her. I’ll let Mama know.” Tommy tried to catch Harry’s eye.

“I’ll do it. But don’t take too long to get inside. Some of us are hungry. Besides, you two are famous and all anyone wants to talk about in there. If you’re in there, instead of out here, they’ll stop asking me questions.”

Harry finally looked at Tommy, who wasn’t sure how to interpret her expression. She knew all of Harry’s major expressions, so it wasn’t any of those. Disappointment didn’t seem right. Concern maybe. Jealousy? Nah. They could talk about it later.

“Good thing that wasn’t your mother.” Natasha kissed her one more time once Harry was back inside.

“Are you ready to meet her?” Tommy kissed Natasha again. She was having a hard time stopping, even though she should. “Okay, I’m done now. You’re a little addictive. I know
